Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is used to add contour and enhance your best features.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment designed to address signs of aging and enhance facial contours for patients seeking a non-surgical approach.

Comprised of various biocompatible substances such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid, these fillers are injected beneath the skin's surface to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles, and rejuvenate the overall appearance.

Our practice specializes in full-facial balancing, which is a technique that addresses the individual’s face as a whole and appreciates your unique features by creating a natural and balanced result. Our providers take pride in ensuring that our patients look like themselves, but refreshed and youthful.

Our dermal fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA) to ensure safety and desired outcomes. HA is naturally found in the body, with the majority of HA stored in the skin. HA is responsible for adding hydration and youthful plumpness to the skin. As we age, we lose HA dramatically leading to hollowness and wrinkles in the skin. Using HA dermal fillers brings the youthful volume back to the face in a very natural way. Dermal fillers can also be used as a contour tool to enhance and highlight beautiful features of the face.

We are an award-winning med spa with top-tier providers and we take pride in being nationally recognized for our filler technique and results. Filler provides an effective, non-surgical solution to help individuals achieve a more youthful and refreshed aesthetic, tailored to their facial features and desired outcomes. This can be a relatively quick procedure with minimal downtime. Please read on to learn more about our specific filler offerings.

What is filler? And how does it work?

Details on Filler Treatment Areas

  • Full facial balancing with dermal filler injections is an advanced cosmetic technique designed to enhance facial harmony and proportions by strategically administering fillers across various areas of the face. This approach goes beyond targeting isolated areas and aims to achieve a balanced and natural-looking result that considers the entire facial structure. The process involves assessing the unique contours and proportions of the individual's face and identifying areas where volume loss or asymmetry may be present.

During the procedure, dermal fillers, often composed of hyaluronic acid, are carefully injected into specific regions such as the cheeks, temples, under eyes, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and jawline to create symmetry and restore youthful volume. By addressing multiple facial zones, full-facial balancing aims to create a cohesive and harmonious appearance.

The key to successful full-facial balancing lies in the expertise of the practitioner, who must have a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, proportions, and aesthetic principles. Tailoring the treatment to the individual's unique features ensures a comprehensive and customized approach.

How long does full facial balancing last?

Full facial balancing is achieved with Hylauronic Acid fillers. These filler gels typically last a couple years or more depending on a multitude of factors.

How many syringes are needed for full facial balancing?

Full facial balancing is a highly individualized technique so syringes can vary. Most patients can expect to require between 3-10 syringes for optimal results.

Our practice offers discounted multi-syringe packages as well as financing options to help offset the cost so that patients can achieve their best results when they want.

Who is a good candidate for full facial balancing?

Like most injectable treatments, facial balancing is not a one-size-fits all procedure. Any adult can be well suited for full facial balancing with filler, however, this treatment is most effective for those that are between the ages of 30 and 80 as they are experiencing the aging process.

Adults that benefit the most from full facial balancing are typically noticing or struggling with some type of asymmetry of the face due to their anatomy or imbalance of their features from aging. Utilizing filler to address these concerns offer patients a non-surgical, effective, and immediate result.

  • Lip filler, also known as lip augmentation or lip enhancement, is a cosmetic procedure designed to add volume, shape, and definition to the lips. The most commonly used filler for this purpose is hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that attracts and retains moisture.

The treatment can address concerns such as thin lips, asymmetry, or the desire for fuller lips. The results are typically immediate, and there is minimal downtime. While there may be some temporary swelling or bruising, these side effects generally subside quickly. Lip filler is a versatile and customizable option for achieving a natural-looking and youthful lip contour, and the effects can last several months to a year.

How long do lip fillers last?

Lip filler can be expected to last 6 months to one year.

How long does it take to heal from lip filler?

Patients can expect bruising and swelling initially after injection. This will be most noticeable the day of and the day after injection. These side effects will slowly dissipate over the next week. Our providers follow up with patients after 2 weeks to ensure that the filler is settling and healing as expected.

What filler is best for lips?

There are multiple fillers that are safe and effective for injection in the lips. All fillers have specific properties that help achieve different looks and results. Our practice offers plumpy fillers that are best for those looking for full and defined lips, as well as softer fillers that are better for more natural results and lip hydration.

Our providers consult with all patients to help determine the best filler for their individual lip needs and goals.

Should I worry about lip filler migration?

There is a lot of talk about lip filler migration on social media and the internet. There was a time when filler was injected with less artful technique which meant that more people experienced overfilling or poor injection technique. These situations were more likely to lead to lip filler migration.

Our providers are highly skilled in ensuring that our patient’s lips are filled with the best techniques to avoid that possibility of migration. We also take great care in communicating and consulting with patients to make them aware of situations that may make them more likely to suffer from filler migration. If out post care guidelines are followed by patients and they trust our filler judgement, migration is far less likely.

Is the hyaluron pen a safe alternative?

NO. The hyaluron pen is a device that fires highly pressurized hylauronic acid gel through a small hole to force filler into the tissues. There is very little control to this device and it is often operated by unlicensed people.

This is incredibly dangerous because filler gel can occlude vasculature or cause swelling that can overwhelm the tissues and potentially lead to permanent tissue death. This is why it is incredibly important to see a qualified and experienced medical provider for your filler injections because THIS IS A MEDICAL PROCEDURE. This helps prevent complications and also ensure that if a complication does occur your injector can effectively care for you.

Not only is the hyaluron pen dangerous but it can also lead to unsatisfactory results due to lack of control over the device. Many patients that have used the hyaluron pen complain about filler migration or unnatural, lumpy results.

  • Nose filler, also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty or liquid rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of dermal fillers to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose without the need for surgery.

During the procedure, one of our providers carefully injects the filler into specific areas of the nose to address concerns such as bumps, asymmetry, or an uneven profile. Nose filler can be used to create a more balanced and harmonious nasal contour, improve the appearance of a dorsal hump, or refine the tip of the nose (tinker bell tip).

The results are often immediate, with minimal downtime. While there may be some temporary swelling or bruising, these effects typically resolve quickly. This is an incredible and more cost-effective alternative to surgical rhinoplasty.

Nose filler provides a non-permanent yet effective solution for individuals seeking a subtle enhancement or correction of nasal features. It's important to consult with a qualified and experienced practitioner to discuss your goals, assess your suitability for the procedure, and ensure a safe and satisfying outcome tailored to your unique facial features.

How long does filler last in the nose?

Filler in the nose can last years. Oftentimes, patients may request a touch up after a year or two to maintain results. However, filler has lasting results because of collagen stimulation to the area.

What is the best filler for the nose?

We prefer to use a filler that has a high G-prime so that it is durable and maintains its shape effectively. An example of this type of filler would be Juvederm Voluma.

Is filler in the nose safe?

While filler in the nose has been considered one of the more risky filler treatments because of the anatomy of the face, we require that our providers who offer this treatment have many years of experience and training in this particular area. We take medical safety incredibly seriously and will never offer a service or product that we fear is unsafe. Our practitioners conduct a detailed consult with all patients prior to injecting to ensure that we give the best and safest recommendation.

Under-eye filler, also known as tear trough filler, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to address concerns such as hollowing, dark circles, or a tired appearance beneath the eyes. This treatment is administered by one of our providers through precise injections into the under-eye area with either needlepoint or cannula.

The filler adds volume and smoothness to the tear troughs, reducing the appearance of shadows and creating a refreshed and rejuvenated look. The results are often immediate, with minimal downtime. While some temporary swelling or bruising may occur, these side effects generally subside quickly.

Many patients who complain of under eye hollowness may be directed to get cheek filler support instead of injecting filler directly under the eye. This is because oftentimes under eye hollowness is an indirect result of a lack of adequate cheek support.

Under-eye filler provides a non-invasive solution for individuals seeking to improve the contour and appearance of the under-eye area, restoring a more youthful and rested look. It's crucial to consult one of our experienced practitioners to discuss your specific concerns, assess your suitability for the procedure, and ensure a safe and satisfactory outcome tailored to your facial features as not all individuals are appropriate candidates for this treatment.

Who is not a good candidate for under eye filler?

Individuals that suffer from under bags that swell or allergies that cause under eye swelling are typically not good candidates for under eye filler.

Filler is comprised of hyaluronic acid gel that draws water in. This can be problematic for those that already suffer from puffiness under the eye because it may further potentiate this swelling.

Our providers will assess whether you are a good candidate for under eye filler. Those that will not benefit from under eye filler may be advised to select PRP/PRF injections under the eye or skin resurfacing treatments like Morpheus8 or microneedling.

How long does under eye filler last?

Under eye filler can last years.

How is under eye filler injected?

Filler can be injected under the eye with either needle or cannula. The type of injection depends on a multitude of factors and the best option will be selected by your provider.

Cannulas are sometimes chosen to minimize bruising and to create an attractive glazing or smoothing of the under eye. A cannula is a metal tube about the same diameter as a small needle that acts as a straw to deposit filler in precise areas without having to make multiple needle pokes.

  • Jawline filler is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to enhance and define the jawline by using dermal fillers. During the treatment, one of our skilled providers carefully injects the filler along the jawline, creating a more sculpted and refined appearance. This procedure is particularly effective for addressing concerns such as a weak jawline, sagging skin, or asymmetry. The filler adds volume and structure to the jaw area, helping to achieve a more balanced and harmonious facial profile.

Results are often immediate, with minimal downtime. While some temporary swelling or bruising may occur, these side effects usually resolve quickly. Jawline filler offers a non-invasive option for individuals seeking to enhance the definition and contour of their lower face.

This procedure is also helpful in slimming the jawline and creating a heart-shaped face by adding support back to the area as well as reducing submental fullness (double chin). Jawline filler pairs nicely with Kybella and Morpheus8 to create the ultimate definition.

How many syringes are needed for jawline augmentation?

Typically 2-4 syringes of filler is needed for optimal results.

Does jawline filler slim the face?

It sounds counterintuitive but adding filler to the jawline can actually create a slimming effect to the face. As we age, the lower face can become heavier looking due to the lack to support. Filler in the jawline can replenish lost volume and structure to create a slimmer look.

How long does jawline filler last?

Regardless of gender, jawline filler can last years.

  • Cheek filler, also known as mid-face or cheek augmentation, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to enhance and restore volume to the cheeks using dermal fillers. During the treatment, one of our providers strategically injects the filler into specific areas of the cheeks to add volume, contour, and lift. This can address concerns such as flattened or hollowed cheeks, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Cheek filler can also help improve under eye hollowness, smile lines, and jowling indirectly!

The results are typically immediate, with minimal downtime. While temporary swelling or bruising may occur, these side effects usually resolve quickly.

Cheek filler offers a non-invasive solution for individuals seeking to enhance their facial structure, restore natural fullness, and achieve a more balanced and harmonious look. Cheek Augmentation is a procedure designed to lift the cheeks and mid-face region.

How long does filler last in the cheeks?

    Cheek filler can last years.

What does filler in the cheeks do?

Cheek filler can support the mid-face area and indirectly improve areas such as the under eye, smile lines, and jowls. Cheek filler can also help create a more heart-shaped and youthful appearance.

It is never our goal to make patient’s look puffy or unnatural with cheek filler. When injected skillfully, cheek filler can help restore contour and definition to the midface with subtle improvements to the lower face as well.

Can cheek filler lift your face?

While it is highly debated in the medical aesthetic community whether fillers can lift the tissues, it is apparent that patients who undergo cheek filler augmentation do have a more lifted appearance. This is likely due to how the filler is strategically and artfully placed to create youthful highlights and contours to the face.

As we age, we lose volume in the face from bone loss and fat pad thinning. Carefully placed filler can effectively replace this volume loss and smooth aging areas.

  • Chin filler, or chin augmentation with dermal fillers, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the chin and improve the profile by adding volume and definition.

This treatment involves precise injections into the chin area to improve contours, balance facial proportions, and address concerns such as a weak or recessed chin. The filler adds subtle yet impactful volume, resulting in a more harmonious and balanced facial profile.

Chin filler can also indirectly improve the jawline, submental region (double chin), and jowls.

The procedure is quick, with immediate results and minimal downtime. While some temporary swelling or bruising may occur, these effects usually resolve quickly.

Chin filler provides a non-invasive option for individuals seeking to improve their chin's definition and overall facial balance. To achieve a natural-looking outcome tailored to your specific goals, it is important to consult with one of our qualified and experienced healthcare professionals who can assess your facial anatomy and discuss the most suitable approach for your chin augmentation.

Will chin filler help with tension, dimpling, and shape?

Chin filler can help alleviate tension in the chin by adding volume and creating a more defined contour. If tension is caused by a recessed or weak chin, filler injections can enhance the projection of the chin, providing a more balanced and relaxed appearance to the lower face.

Dimpling in the chin area can be due to muscle hyperactivity or asymmetry. Chin filler can help by providing structural support, smoothing out irregularities, and reducing the appearance of dimples. It works by filling in spaces and creating a more even surface.

Chin filler is an effective way to enhance the shape of the chin. Whether you desire a more pronounced chin or want to correct asymmetry, filler injections can be strategically placed to achieve the desired shape and balance.

    Does chin filler look natural?

Chin filler can look incredibly natural and greatly improve the balance of the face and profile. Chin filler will not necessarily masculinize the face when injected artfully by a qualified provider. It is a great option for both men and women looking for different looks.

How long does chin filler last?

    Chin filler can last years.

  • Smile line filler, also known as nasolabial fold filler, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to soften and diminish the appearance of smile lines. These lines, which extend from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (creating the appearance of “parentheses” around the mouth), can become more pronounced with age due to a loss of skin elasticity and natural collagen.

Filler is injected into the targeted areas to add volume and smooth out the lines of the nasolabial folds. This treatment is carefully done so that the patient appears natural and maintains normal facial movement. The procedure is quick, with immediate results and minimal downtime. By restoring volume and structure to the nasolabial folds, smile line filler helps create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

While temporary swelling or bruising may occur, these side effects generally resolve quickly. Smile lines are also technically termed as nasolabial folds.

Can you use filler in the smile lines?

Filler can be effectively used in the smile line area when injected carefully and judiciously. However, when patients complain of heaviness in the smile line area this is a result of volume loss in other areas. Our providers will typically recommend addressing the temple or cheek area first for a more natural look. Our full balancing treatment is typically the preferred option for these individuals.

  • Hand filler, or hand rejuvenation with dermal fillers, is a cosmetic procedure designed to address signs of aging on the hands, such as volume loss, prominent veins, and visible tendons.

Aging hands are often an overlooked area in the restoration process. With aging, the hands lose youthful fat and skin elasticity. Studies show that over 50% of women over the age of 35 believe that their hands make them appear older than their age.

Hand filler helps to replenish lost volume, improving the overall texture and minimizing the visibility of veins and tendons. Don’t let those hands give you away!

How many syringes are needed for hand filler?

Typically 1-2 syringes of filler per hand are needed for optimal results.

How long does hand filler last?

Filler in the hands can last years.

Filler Pre & Post Care

Pre-treatment Instructions

If you are anxious or worried about your procedure, feel free to talk to the healthcare practitioner who will perform your procedure. Our practitioners are highly experienced and may have suggestions that will help.

Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, St. John's Wort, oral Vitamin E, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) in the 24 hours prior to your treatment as they may promote the risk of bruising and bleeding in the injection area.

Do not stop a prescribed blood thinner unless approved by your doctor. Please inform your injector if you are currently taking any prescribed blood thinners (Warfarin, Coumadin, Heparin, Lovenox, Enoxaparin, Lepirudin, Refludan, Ticlopidine Ticlid, Clopidogrel, Plavix, Tirofiban, Aggrastat, Eptifibatide, Integrilin). You may or may not be a candidate for treatment with cosmetic dermal fillers.

If you are prone to cold sores (oral herpes simplex), it is recommended that you take your prescribed medication (Famvir, Famciclovir, Valtrex, Valacyclovir, Acyclovir) as prescribed in the 24 hours prior to your treatment to avoid stimulating the virus.

Although bruising is expected with this treatment, we do our best to avoid it as much as possible. Starting Arnica tablets 3 days prior to your appointment can help reduce the risk of bruising.

Please arrive to your appointment with a clean face and remove all makeup. This is important for avoiding infection or other complications.

Post-treatment Instructions

Avoid applying pressure or touching the treated area for 6 hours after the procedure. The area can then be gently washed with a cleanser and water.

Avoid vigorous scrubs, exfoliation or facial treatment in the area of treatment for 72 hours.

Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or UV/tanning beds for 72 hours after the procedure.

Avoid makeup to the area for 48 hours.

For pain/discomfort, use cool packs and over-the-counter pain medications (Acetaminophen, Tylenol).

Oral or topical Arnica, an herbal supplement, may help with reducing swelling caused by cosmetic treatments. DO NOT take Arnica Montana if you have liver or kidney problems.

Avoid aspirin, Advil, St. John’s Wort, vitamin E, and NSAIDs after injection to reduce the risk of bruising.

Bruising and swelling are normal after injection. It may even be worse the day after. However, if you experience signs and symptoms of infection (warmth at the site of injection, discharge/pus, pain/discomfort) or if you develop a fever, please contact our office so our staff may assist you.

Please call our office immediately if you experience worsening pain at the injection site or color changes to your skin like a dark bruise or lacey red pattern (especially if associated with pain).
